2023 SCD1 Host Team Announcement

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE


SOUTH CAROLINA DISTRICT ONE HOST TEAM HAS BEEN NAMED FOR THE 

2023 SENIOR LEAGUE BASEBALL WORLD SERIES


Easley, SC - June 2, 2023 - Easley Little League, in conjunction with Hendrick Honda, is delighted to announce the final selection of 16 standout players for the 2023 South Carolina District One Host Team for the Senior League Baseball World Series. Chosen from a pool of 80 talented registrants across three counties, these young athletes will represent their community in the global tournament, set to take place from July 29th to August 5th at the JB Red Owens Complex in Easley.

Following rigorous tryouts, the top 25 players were invited back for further scrutiny. From this esteemed group, the final roster of 16 players were selected. The team showcases extraordinary talent from a variety of local schools.

  • Joey McGovern - Seneca

  • Jasean Perry - Daniel

  • Bolton Pritchard - Wren

  • Aedan Queen - Pendleton

  • Kade Scruggs - Pendleton

  • Jonathan Sonderfan - Easley

  • Trey Sutton - Easley

  • Austin Vinson - Wren

Alternates:

  • Cooper Sears - Easley

  • Banks Gambrell - Easley

 

These players are all set to deliver top-notch performances in the tournament, under the expert guidance of Manager George Turmon and Coaches Todd Miller, Matt Austin, and Matt Smith.


"We are incredibly proud of the talent and sportsmanship showcased by these players," said Brian Gibson, President of Easley Little League. "They truly live up to our league's spirit and values, and we're super excited to see them shine in the tournament!"


Bill Cain, Easley Little League’s Safety Officer and member of the Senior League World Series committee, echoed the sentiment: "Being up close during the tryouts and witnessing these athletes bring their A-game during practice, I must confess - the energy and competition the 2023 Host Team is bringing to the table has me more fired up than I've been in the past ten years!"


During the first night of tryouts, Amanda Morris, Easley Little League’s Marketing & Events Coordinator, was awestruck by the overwhelming talent that presented itself. In her words: "It's been an incredible evening. The level of talent we've seen could very well form a fantastic team already, and we've still got another half of the players to see. The hard work of putting this together truly has paid off!"


Similarly, Kelly Osteen, Easley Little League’s Secretary & Treasurer, member of the Senior League World Series committee, and Host Family for the SCD1 Team, shared her anticipation for the upcoming tournament. "The emotions tied to this year's tournament are beyond words! The blend of excitement, joy, and the profound sense of camaraderie that we're witnessing among the coaching staff, players, their families, and the Board members far exceeds my highest expectations. It feels like a dream! This year, we're beyond proud to be the Home League and we're calling out to each community represented on this team, their families and their friends – let's get behind these amazing young players! Keep your eyes peeled for the official "Meet the Team" celebration event at Hendrick Honda - it's going to be a great chance to hang out with these super talented athletes.”
